Feast Your Ears: Movie Screening
Friday, April 17, 2026
As part of the Town's historical celebrations this year, come do something super cool. Feast Your Ears: The Story of WHFS is a high-energy documentary about one of the most influential "freeform" radio stations in American history. Based in Bethesda, Maryland, WHFS became a countercultural lighthouse that prioritized musical discovery over corporate playlists, giving a voice to the underground from the late 1960s through the 1980s.
The Evolution of Sound Post-British Invasion. The documentary captures a pivotal shift in the history of rock and pop. Following the British Invasion, the late '60s saw music evolve from 3-minute pop singles into complex, experimental albums. While mainstream radio stuck to rigid formats, WHFS embraced this revolution. The station became a bridge between genres, blending progressive rock, punk, new wave, and reggae. By breaking artists like Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, and Little Feat long before they were household names, WHFS proved that the spirit of the British Invasion -- innovation and rebellion -- could flourish in the FM dial's "wild west."
Experience this local legacy on the big screen! Join your neighbors on April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall for a special screening followed by a deep-dive discussion into the station’s legendary run. Featured panelists are Jay Schlossberg (Director) and Dick Bangham (Editor), plus other surprise special guests!
