Sidewalk Overgrown Vegetation Enforcement Has Begun

The Town Council recently adopted a new standard for sidewalk clearance that does not require sidewalks to be unobstructed from edge to edge. Rather, the Council adopted a more reasonable and realistic policy that requires a clear travel path on sidewalks that meets the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Under the ADA, a clear travel path on a sidewalk must be at least 3 feet wide and at least 6.7 feet tall.

The Town will actively enforce the new clearance standards by trimming public trees and private plantings that obstruct the sidewalk following a formal notification process if voluntary compliance is not achieved. If you have vegetation that does not meet the clearance standards described above, please have the obstructing vegetation removed to make the sidewalks safe and accessible.

Initial enforcement letters have been sent to residents in the northwestern section of the Town, and enforcement will proceed in phases from the west side of Town over the next several months. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. Please contact the Town Office at townoffice@townofchevychase.org if you have any questions.

Montgomery County Launches 2024 Online Community Survey of Residents, With Response Deadline of Sept. 30

Montgomery County has launched the County's 2024 online resident survey. The survey, which is open to any resident 18-and-over, aims to gather feedback on local government services and the perception of overall quality of life in the County. The survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 30.

The survey questions ask about the following issues:

-- Quality of life of neighborhood/community
-- Favorability of County services
-- Usage of amenities and facilities
-- Participation in County programs
-- Customer and constituent service of County employees
-- Effectiveness of County communications
-- Household practices (such as recycling)

The survey plays a crucial role in improving customer service, promoting transparency and gathering feedback that informs budgetary and policy decisions. These insights help deliver effective and efficient government services. To view the results of the most recent Community Survey, conducted in 2021, visit this page.

County RainScapes Program Now Accepting Applications

The County’s RainScapes Rewards application portal reopened on September 16, 2024. The Town offers a program that provides residents who complete a County RainScapes project with a supplemental rebate of up to 50% of the County rebate amount, with the total combined rebate limited to 85% of the total cost of the project. For more information, visit bit.ly/TOCCRainScapes.

COVID Test Kits

During the pandemic, the County established a program to provide COVID test kits to residents due to limited availability of both test kits and vaccines. The Town and other municipalities were distribution centers for this program. Now that the pandemic is no longer a public health emergency, and test kits and vaccines are readily available, the County has discontinued providing test kits to residents, and the Town will no longer receive them. At this time, the Town does not intend to purchase and distribute test kits since they are inexpensive and available at local stores, through most health insurance programs, and free from the federal government.
