Behind the Walls Tour of A New Ultra Green Home - 2/12/2012 (Sun)

Town residents Marcie Meditch and John Murphey have designed their new home on Underwood Street that is so green that it’s beyond LEED Gold and Energy Star.  It includes high R-value soy-based insulation, in-floor radiant heat, geothermal energy, and minimal air leaks.  Many of the features will be invisible once the house is finished but they have agreed to give neighbors an up close tour of all the energy efficient features of the house.  Whether you’re upgrading your home’s energy efficiency, building an addition, or just interested in green homes you will find much fascinating information from this tour.  Please join the Climate and Environment Committee for a tour behind the scenes on February 12 from 3:30-5:00 PM.  Marcie and John’s architectural firm (Meditch/Murphey Architects) has won many prizes and recognitions for environmentally sound designs and they recently completed a zero energy house in Bethesda.  This tour is not appropriate for children but high school students interested in green architecture may come if accompanied by an adult.  Because the house is still under construction, railings and guardrails may not be in place so you enter at your own risk.  Please RSVP to the Town Office at 301-654-7144 by February. 10.
