Energy Audit and Improvements Assistance ProgramThe Town will continue to offer the Energy Audit and Improvements Assistance Program until the end of this fiscal year, or June 30, 2012. The program reimburses residents for some of the costs associated with obtaining an energy audit and implementing energy efficient home improvements. The program began in November 2009, and almost 60 residents have participated in the program since that time. Any resident who wishes to take advantage of this program should sign up by April 30. A registration form is available online or in the Town Office. Under the program, residents contact the Town Office to sign up for the program, schedule an energy audit by a certified auditor and submit a paid bill for reimbursement by the Town, along with data from the audit and a list of planned follow-up actions. The Town will reimburse a resident up to $200 for the cost of the energy audit. Residents may then implement energy-efficient improvements identified in the audit (any improvements requiring a permit would need to be performed by a licensed Maryland home improvement contractor) and submit a paid bill to the Town for reimbursement. The Town will reimburse a resident up to $600 for the cost of the improvements, less any reimbursement for the energy audit, if applicable. As part of this program, a resident agrees to allow the Town to use data, such as energy bills, for calculations of energy savings as part of efforts to reduce Town CO2 emissions. All personal information would be kept confidential to protect residents’ privacy.
PEPCO has a deal with a group of auditors so you pay only $100 for an audit (vs. $350-450 regularly). To find PEPCO contractors, visit: http://homeenergysavings.pepco.com/md/home-energy-savings/hpes-contractor-search.
The Town program requires Maryland certified BPI auditors, which you can find by visiting http://www.mdhomeperformance.org/Counties/MontgomeryCounty.htm If you go ahead with the improvements, Maryland will refund the $100 you paid PEPCO for the audit.
