Tree Protection & Removal

The Town's tree ordinance creates a simple permit procedure to allow the removal of dead, dying, hazardous, or undesirable trees; establishes guidelines and procedures for an expeditious community review of requests to cut down healthy canopy trees; and protects trees on construction sites and on adjoining properties by requiring contractors to file and adhere to a formal tree protection plan.

The ordinance is intended to encourage homeowners and builders to consider ways to conserve the town's tree canopy when planning construction projects, and it allows the town to collect data on tree loss and to inform neighbors about a request for tree removal before it occurs.
