- Accessory Apartments and Home Businesses
Most properties in the Town have title covenants, which require that the house be used solely as a single-family dwelling. Town residents may call the Town Office to inquire about the County ordinance, which regulates the use of residential property for home occupation or accessory apartments if no such covenant exists on your deed.
- Interior Remodeling
A Town permit is not required for interior remodeling; however, call Montgomery County at 240-777-6300 to determine if a County permit is required.
- Noise Control
To register complaints or inquiries with the County, please call 240-777-7770 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Parking
If residential permit parking has been instituted on your street, you must obtain a permit. Permit stickers and courtesy guest cards are issued at no cost to all qualified residents. Parking permits are valid only in the vicinity of your home. Please do not park along congested streets, which border the Town, unless it is your own street. When registering your car for the first time, you must provide proof of residency and a copy of your car registration. Permits are renewed on a two year cycle. Applications for renewal are included in the September issue of the FORECAST.
Commercial vehicles, trailers, campers, motor homes, buses, or boats on trailers may not be parked on Town streets between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. These vehicles may not be stored in a front yard. These types of vehicles may be parked in a private driveway as long as they are located behind a line lateral to the actual front building line of the residence.
A disabled vehicle must be removed from the street within 24 hours or it will be towed. Vehicles parked on permitted streets without valid permits will be ticketed. Car repairs may not be made on Town streets except for the purpose of moving a disabled vehicle.
When snow or ice is predicted for our area, all on-street parking must be on the even-numbered side of the street, leaving the odd side free for the snowplow to operate.

PetsDogs should be leashed when they are being walked. Allowing your dog to run loose is unlawful in Montgomery County. Please do not allow your dog or cat to become a public nuisance. When walking on public property, please be considerate of others by cleaning up after your pet. All dogs and cats four months of age and older must be continuously vaccinated against rabies and licensed. Call the Town Office if you need additional information.
- Smoke Detectors
The Town and Montgomery County require smoke detectors in all dwelling units. At least one smoke detector should be installed to protect each sleeping area, and one smoke detector should be installed at the top of each stairway leading to an occupied area. At least one fire detector on each floor is required. Call the Montgomery County Division of Fire and Rescue services at 240-777-2400.
- Solicitors, Hawkers, Peddlers
Town residents should be aware that the Town requires solicitors, hawkers and peddlers to have a county license and a Town license before they can engage in business in the Town. Ask to see copies of the licenses. No solicitations are permitted before 9:00 a.m. or after sunset. Call the Town Office if you have questions.
