Permits & RegulationsThe Town of Chevy Chase is a self-governing municipality located in Montgomery County, Maryland. As such, the Town has the authority to regulate certain activities within its boundaries. A five member Town Council, composed of and elected by Town residents, governs the Town. The Council selects the Mayor. The Town Manager is appointed by the Council to enforce the regulations of the Town and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the community. The Municipal Charter of the Town authorizes the Town Council to provide for the codification of all ordinances enacted by the Town Council. The ordinances controlling building within the incorporated boundaries of the Town appear in Chapter 4 of the Municipal Code. Click here to access the Town Code. The Town of Chevy Chase is a dual permitting zone. This means that if you plan to do any building on your property you will need both a Town of Chevy Chase permit and a permit issued by Montgomery County. Permits are required for new construction, making any structural alterations or additions to existing buildings, erecting fences, berms or walls. A Town permit is not required for interior remodeling; however the County may require a permit. |
