Recent Incidents at Chevy Chase Elementary School
The Town has become aware of two recent and different incidents at Chevy Chase Elementary School (CCES) following student dismissal.
While the Town does not have firsthand information about these incidents, according to a letter from CCES Principal Jody Smith, there were two occurrences of students being followed by strangers on the way home from school.
All students are safe. School security was notified, and the Montgomery County Police Department is investigating the incidents. The Town has notified its off-duty officers to be vigilant around the school, and we have spoken with the Bethesda Police Commander, who confirmed that this is still an active investigation.
We want to reiterate the advice in the letter from the CCES Principal. Please speak with your children reminding them to go directly home from school, discuss what your child should do if they are ever approached in any way, and to report the incident to an adult as soon as possible.
