The Town office will be closed on Monday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. Household trash will not be collected on Monday, July 4 but will be collected on Thursday, July 7 for the Monday/Thursday collection route. Yard trash will be collected on Tuesday, July 5, and recycling and household organic waste will be collected on Wednesday, July 6. |

The developers of 7100 Connecticut Avenue have responded to the Town's recent request for additional information regarding the redevelopment of the former 4-H property, including information about the height and massing of the proposed buildings. The Town Council has reviewed the submitted materials, which are available for review on the Town website, and has requested from the developers a 3-D model that will provide the Town the ability to see the height and massing of the entire project from all angles, without vegetative cover. Once the Town receives this model, we will distribute it publicly and solicit resident feedback.

On June 28, the Town Council voted unanimously to appropriate an additional $500,000 to the Farm Women's Market parks development project, with certain conditions and subject to a public hearing at the Council's July 21 meeting. The County specifically requested the Town to make this additional contribution to help secure the total amount of funding needed for the creation of these parks. (In November 2021, the Council voted unanimously to appropriate up to $4 million to this project, with conditions.) At the June 28 meeting, the Council also agreed to substantive revisions to the draft Letter of Intent (LOI), which will be the subject of negotiations among the involved parties. A clean version of the LOI with the Town's revisions is available for review on the Town website.

Here is your chance to be included in the Town’s new online Resident Directory. The directory is completely private and available only to Town residents through the Town website. To be included, you must complete the authorization form on the Town website. The current online directory will be deleted and replaced with the new one on September 30, 2022, so we encourage you to provide your information by that date. Since it is an online directory, we will accept additions and changes on an ongoing basis during the 2-year term of the new directory. We look forward to receiving your information.

Are you a new resident who is interested in parks, cut-through traffic, or special events? Are you a resident concerned about tree conservation, stormwater management, or potential housing changes? The Town Council encourages you to volunteer for a Town committee, board, or commission. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to spend one hour per week, on average, extending your talents, working with fellow residents, and improving our community. Information about the various committees and boards is available here. If you are interested in volunteering, please email townoffice@townofchevychase.org. |

The use of gas-powered blowers is prohibited from January 1 through October 14. The Town Council approved this ban in response to resident concerns about noise and other impacts of this type of landscaping equipment. The regulations exempt gas-powered snow blowers and sprayers. Montgomery County noise regulations also remain in effect in the Town.

11:45 a.m.: Come to the Lawton Center to decorate your bikes, scooters, wagons, and baby carriages. The Town will provide decorating supplies.
12 p.m.: Parade and Dixieland Band
The parade will begin at 12 p.m. and will be led by the Dixie Land Trio.
12:15-1:30 p.m.: Picnic
Town residents will be treated to barbeque catered by Red, Hot & Blue and the famous Ben and Jerry’s ice cream truck. Vegetarian & vegan options are available upon request. Bring your appetite and picnic blanket!

Donate Backpacks & School SuppliesHelp kids prepare for the upcoming school year by donating new or slightly used backpacks & school supplies. Town residents Molly Hill and Jane Root are working with A Wider Circle to support students (K-12) in need. You may drop off donations at the Town Office during office hours (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. M/W/F) or at the Hill/Root residence (4209 Thornapple Street). Donation boxes will be available from July 8 to August 14. |

The Town will host a Household Hazardous Waste collection event on July 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Lawton Center parking lot. We are offering this service since some residents were not able to dispose of oil-based paint and other hazardous waste during the Town’s spring Trash and Treasures event. Please note that only Town residents will be allowed to dispose of waste at this event (please bring a valid form of identification that includes your address), and all materials must be dropped off from automobiles (no walk-up disposals will be allowed). Following are materials that will be collected during this event: acids, aerosols, antifreeze, batteries (car and household), brake fluid, craft chemicals, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, fluorescent lights, fuel, fungicides, gasoline, herbicides, hobby chemicals, household cleaners, items containing mercury, motor oil, oil filters, paint thinners, paints, pest strips, pesticides, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, solvent, stains, and varnishes. Items that will not be accepted include ammunition, explosives, biohazardous waste, pharmaceuticals, radioactive waste, or tires.

Since the fall Trash & Treasures Light Bulb Exchange event was oversubscribed, we have arranged for Montgomery County to hold an interim "Lighten Up" Light Bulb Exchange event on July 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Lawton Center (indoors if there is inclement weather). You can exchange any 3 working or non-working light bulbs for 3 new LED bulbs. You can also drop off all of your working or non-working light bulbs for safe disposal even if you have more than 3.

Our Town of Chevy Chase Book Club will meet July 25 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall to discuss The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris. It is a story of the Deep South in the violent crucible of Reconstruction; selected by Oprah and longlisted for the Booker. Save the date for our next meeting on September 19 to discuss Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Sponsored by the Community Relations Committee; all are welcome.

The Town has COVID test kits and N95 masks available for pick up at the Town office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The kits and masks are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Residents are asked to keep all streets and sidewalks clear of overgrown vegetation. Please prune vegetation to ensure unobstructed sight lines for pedestrians and motorists. |

The Town office is staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On other days, most employees telework. There may be someone to assist on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but please contact the office in advance. |
